Mary Anne Moser has built a career at the crossroads of art, science and creativity. Her ability to inspire confidence and build partnerships has helped her create unique phenomena that attract international attention. She is recognized as a visionary bridge-builder, strategist, passionate about technology, art and society, and a tireless leader in complex interdisciplinary environments.
She has led talented teams that perform well above average on a global stage. She is known for programmatic innovation that achieves global recognition.
Her impact derives from 30 years of experience in building new initiatives aimed at equity and access to education.
She has a strong science and math background, financial acuity, commitment to audience and metrics, and enormous personal integrity.
She was the founder of the Banff Centre Press in 1995, the Banff Science Communications Program in 2005, and Canada’s Iron Science Teacher competition in 2007.
She is the editor of two books on art and science: Immersed in Technology (MIT Press 1995) and Science, She Loves Me (Banff Centre Press 2011).
She co-founded and was CEO of Beakerhead, a visionary art, science and creativity initiative that rocketed to success through a focus on diversity, inclusion and partnerships.
She has received an ASTech Award for Excellence in Science and Technology Public Awareness, an Honorary Doctorate from Mount Royal University, and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal for her years of service to community.
She served as President and CEO of Telus Spark Science Centre for four years, and launched it into a new orbit: building a new roadmap, steering a stable course through the pandemic, growing the organization from a $12 million to $15 million annual operations budget, from 370,000 guests per year to more than 470,000, elevating staff morale, creating strong community connections and cultivating more than $25 million for capital and program expansion. With a focus on diversity and digital reach, her warmth and strength led to a new vibrancy, palpable inclusiveness and international potential for the organization. Under her leadership, Spark received the Canadian Museums Association’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Outreach for its digital initiatives in 2020, the Roy L. Schafer Leading Edge Award for Community Service in 2022 from the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) for its Indigenous engagement program, and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Award for best new food menu item also in 2022, showing the caliber of excellence fostered across the organization.
She holds a BSc in zoology, MA in communications and an interdisciplinary PhD.
